Linux/Unix Monitoring Engineer (08.608.041.MC)
This employer is a world wide Payment Service Provider who collects, processes and reports payments on behalf of third parties such as product or service providers. End 2009 they have set up a Control Room.
This Control Room consists of an office with 24x7 staff monitoring all platforms, using the available monitoring tools. They are the eyes and ears of all platforms. The ControlRoom monitors the platforms on all levels like Hardware, OS, DB, application and connectivity. In case of any disruptions immediate action is required, which can be done faster with staff constantly in the office. So any engineer in the ControlRoom should have knowledge and experience in the above mentioned areas.
Besides reacting on disruptions, Control Room engineers have other tasks like solving tickets and preparing periodical reports.
As Control Room Engineer you will be a member of the Operations & ICT department, a very dynamic and international team. You will report to the VP Operations & ICT.
In this challenging and divers position you will be working with 15 colleagues in a rotating 24/7 shifts. Meaning you will be working 2.5 morning/afternoon or evening shifts in a row, and 3 day's off a week.
You will be responsible for:
- Monitoring online systems and take needed action as soon as possible (for example restarting servers);
- Monitoring offline processes and systems, export, matching, restart BO DB, run BO scripts, change crontab's if needed;
- Creating and resolving tickets in the Mantis system;
- Creating periodical reports (peak volumes, uptime, system usage, Mantis) on weekly and monthly basis;
- Frequent call with datacenters and external (payment) providers;
- Monitoring expiry dates of certificates and warning 3rd line support team;
- Write IARs and keep track of them, if needed together with 3rd line support;
- Investigating problems by looking in monitoring tools.
We are looking for ICT professionals who match the following requirements:
- MBO ICT related education with minimum of 2 years of relevant knowledge AND experience working with Linux/Unix and SQL;
- OR HBO ICT related education with 1,5 years relevant knowledge AND experience working with Linux/Unix and SQL;
- GOOD knowledge and experience in working with Linux/Unix and SQL;
- Perfect knowledge of English in word and writing;
- Preferably third language like French, Spanish, Chinese, German;
- You must be willing to work day-, evening- and night shifts in a forward rotating schedule.
ADDITIONAL KNOWLEDGE in one of the following areas is preferred:
- Networking;
- Web Technologies;
- Java Environments;
- Basic understanding of Security;
- Basic understanding of Oracle database;
- Basic understanding of Security.
